Tuesday Kate started her first day of preschool. I was very nervous how the first day would go. My mom told me to expect tears and that it was totally normal for them to cry the first week. So I expected tears - lots of tears - because Kate likes mommy and daddy ;) We tried preparing Kate for the first day by showing her the backpack and matching lunchbox she would take, driving her by school, and I even made her a photo book of pictures taken of her classroom. Kameron read it to her every night to make sure she got familiar. Tuesday morning I tried to make the morning as normal as possible. I showered the night before and prepared her lunch and backpack as well so there would be no rush in the morning. I am so glad I did that because we left the house on time and arrived a few minutes early. I was even able to take first day of school pictures on the stairs. The lump in my throat began to form as I took photos of her with her school things. Bryce, Kate's best bud, is in her class so when we got there she saw him waiting outside. He was holding his lunchbox so she had to hold hers. They walked in side by side and she walked right into the classroom! I was shocked! I expected her to notice she was staying and she did, but no tears yet! Was this really happening I said to myself. Yes, it was....I kissed her good bye and jetted out the door and did not look back. As the lump grew bigger in my throat, I rushed to the car with Kara and belted out a cry as I sat down. My baby is growing up. My baby is growing up. Wow...time really does fly.
I enjoyed a day of Costco shopping, cleaning, and a nap with Kara on my chest with afew minutes to spare. I had Kate on my mind all day. "what was she doing? How was she doing? Can I be a fly on the wall to just watch her? Does she miss me?" I could not wait to pick her up.
When I arrived at her classroom door, she did not even notice I was there. She smiled big at me when I called her name and shouted "mommy!!" (by the way- the best sound in the world!!!) Her teacher said she napped for 1 1/2 hours and had a great day. What a relief...
Day one down...Thursday to go. Let's see how day 2 goes....
Here are a few things she recieved in her take home folder. She even got a book order!!!! How fun!!! The first sheet is her first lesson, the letter A, second is the book order, next is her daily report :)
