10 months old!!!

I cannot believe Kate is 10 months old! 10 months has brought many new milestones. Kate got her first set of bottom teeth...finally! There were many sleepless nights but overall she did really well with the experience. I can only imagine what it must feel like to have teeth breaking through your gums. I felt so bad for her...especially at 3am when she would wake screaming bloody murder. And the thing is there is nothing you can really do to help the situation. The teething orajel is a waste of money and effort - trying to get it on their gums is a total upper body workout. I felt like I was putting a straight jacket on Kate holding her arms and head down while trying to squeeze out the tube of gel on my fingertip and apply it ever so slightly - yea right! ...anyone who has had success at getting that gel on I welcome your suggestions! The only thing that helped her to go back to sleep was to nurse her. Thank goodness that worked!

10 months has also brought on cruising the window sill and walking with push toys. I see walking in our very near future! It is so fun to watch her teach herself to walk. It feels like only yesterday Kate was laying on her baby einstein play mat batting at the hanging star wishing she could reach it. Now she sees what she wants to play with and goes after it.

We are beginning to wean now. Not because I necessarily chose to do so but I think she is just not interested in nursing that much anymore. I nurse her in the morning and at night now. Such a change from nursing ever 3-4 hours! We have replaced the other feedings with whole milk or water. She seems to be doing just fine with it. I had a friend ask me if I was sad with the weaning. I was not sure how to respond - I am not sure how I feel. On one hand it is very nice not having to be a slave to the breast pump or a schedule of feedings but on the other hand there is something so sweet and amazing about nursing. Such a bonding time with your child. I plan to hold on to the morning and night feeding as long as we can.
